Cyber training helping Sunshine Coast seniors stay safe online

With Scams Awareness Week now underway (from 25 August) and Cyber Security Awareness Month just around the corner in October, Bolton Clarke is rolling out a series of free cyber security sessions for Sunshine Coast seniors, with the next session at Tantula Rise Retirement Village on 3 September.

Research shows most over-65s (about 85 per cent) are now using the internet to stay in touch or access services.

However data released by ACCC last year showed over 65s were also losing more savings to financial scammers, often targeting them through social media.

The free Tantula Rise session is funded through the Australian Government’s Be Connected initiative and will provide practical support to help build digital skills and confidence to stay secure online.

The session follows successful programs at Caboolture and on the Gold Coast.

“Having an online presence is increasingly important for staying connected and engaging with services, including things like MyGov and My Aged Care,” Bolton Clarke Digital Independence team member Joe Griffiths said.

“The online world is increasingly complex, but there are some simple things people can do to stay safe and make the most of what’s available.

“We’ll have an expert from the Seniors Inquiry Line to talk about cyber security and members from our team who can provide support and answer questions about getting online and making the most of the government resources available.”

The session is open to everyone over 65 and morning tea will be served.

When: 10am, Monday, 3 September.

Where: Bolton Clarke Tantula Rise Retirement Village, 96 Tantula Rd West, Alexandra Headlands.

RSVP: tantularise@boltonclarke.com.au or call Kerrianne on 0407-180-726.
